Recording began after Christmas of 2014. gzuslivz has lead worship at Legacy Christian Church for over 10 years now. We have had a wide variety of Christmas music over the years including: acoustic guitar & vocals only, Handel's Messiah by Reliant K, Away in a Manger by Blind Boys of Alabama, Jingle Bells by The Brian Setzer Orchestra, We Three Kings by Amped, and Oh Come All Ye Faithful by Twisted Sister. Ironically, I (Kirk) don't really like Christmas songs. So why do an album of Christmas songs? I thought it might be interesting to create our own version of typical Christmas songs, maybe done a-typically; that's how I am. The original versions of all these songs are public domain ( http://www.pdinfo.com/pd-music-genres/pd-christmas-songs.php ) so we didn't have to mess around with licensing. Yay!

I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day

I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day (Kirk Hopkins Version)
G D
I heard the bells on Christmas day
      G D
Their old familiar carols play,
    G Em
And wild and sweet the words repeat
   G D G
Of peace on earth, goodwill to men.

I thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along the unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

And in despair I bowed my head
'There is no peace on earth,' I said,
'For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.'

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
'God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men.'

Till ringing, singing on its way
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime, a chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, goodwill to men.

Away in a Manger

Away in a Manger (Kirk Hopkins Version)
E E A E
Away in a manger, no crib for a bed
    B7 B7 E E
The little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head
    E E A E
The stars in the sky looked down where He lay
    B7 E A (B7) E
The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay

The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes
But little Lord Jesus, no crying He makes
I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky
And stay by my cradle till morning is nigh

Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever, and love me, I pray
Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care
And take us to heaven to live with Thee there
